Who it's for

Who is FLOT. for?

FLOT. is made for places where a sheet pile wall forms the bank and there is no room for a nature-friendly bank. Below, per type of client, what FLOT. can offer.

Municipalities

Stone quays in a harbour basin or town centre turn green without construction work on the sheet pile wall. That counts towards biodiversity and climate adaptation, and residents see the result straight from the quay.

Water authorities and Rijkswaterstaat

The Water Framework Directive calls for better water quality, also in waterways with hard banks. The plants take up nutrients. Roots and ballast give fish and small aquatic animals habitat in places where it is currently missing.

Property developers

New waterfront developments often get a steel sheet pile wall. With FLOT., greenery hangs along that quay from handover, instead of bare steel.

Civil engineering firms and contractors

FLOT. fits in with sheet piling and quay work. The modules are mounted to the existing sheet pile wall with a few attachment points, without heavy intervention. In a tender, it can count towards sustainability and environmental quality.

Port managers and waterfront businesses

Industrial harbours have a lot of sheet piling and little greenery. FLOT. creates stepping stones for insects, birds and fish between nature areas, in a harbour that otherwise offers little habitat.

First check

Does FLOT. fit my sheet pile wall?

Every quay is different. For a first assessment we ask about a few things. Please also send a few photos of the quay.

Discuss your location
  • The type of sheet pile wall (steel or concrete) and whether it has a capping beam
  • The water depth and how much the water level varies
  • Shipping and waves along the quay
  • Fresh, brackish or salt water
  • Sun and shade at the location
